Roberto BLANCARTE

Roberto Blancarte (Mazatlán, Sinaloa, Mexico, 29 August 1957), holds a Doctorate in Social Sciences (1988) from the École des hautes études en sciences sociales (EHESS), in Paris, France.

He has a Masters in History and Civilizations from the same institution and graduated in International Relations from the Colegio de México. Since 1999 he has been a lecturer-researcher at the Centre for Sociological Studies at the Colegio de México. His lines of research are: secularism, secularisation, the relationship between politics and religion, modern-world beliefs and bioethics.

He has been a lecturer at Stanford University in California, Dartmouth College in New Hampshire, the École Pratique des Hautes Études and the Université Paris-Diderot in France; he has participated in conferences in many other universities across Europe, Asia and America.

He has been a Minister of the Mexican Embassy to the Holy See and Chief of Staff to the Undersecretary of Religious Affairs at the Office of Domestic Affairs in Mexico. He has published around fifteen books and writes weekly for the Milenio and Noroeste newspapers.
