José DE LA PUENTE BRUNKE

José de la Puente Brunke is a Doctor of History (University of Seville) and Bachelor of Laws (Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú). He is a Professor at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, and is currently Dean of its Undergraduate School of Arts and Sciences. He is Vice-President of the National Academy of History (Peru) and has been Director of the Riva-Agüero Institute.

His main research is related to the social and political history of viceregal Peru, with emphasis on the study of the administration of justice. He also studies the history of Peru in the 19th century, and in this field he is particularly interested in political and cultural history, and in the rescue of documentation from private archives.

He is the author, among other books, of Encomienda y encomenderos en el Perú (Seville, 1992), co-author of Historia común de Iberoamérica (Madrid, 2000), El Perú desde la intimidad. Epistolario de Manuel Candamo (1873-1904) (Lima, 2008) and El estado en la sombra. El Perú durante la ocupación chilena (Lima, 2016).
