Marco Sgarbi es profesor de historia de la filosofía en la Universidad Ca' Foscari de Venecia. Fue Investigador Principal del Proyecto ERC Starting Grant 2013 titulado "Aristotle in the Italian Vernacular: Rethinking Renaissance and Early-Modern Intellectual History (c. 1400–c. 1650)".

Fue Jean-François Malle fellow en Villa I Tatti, The Harvard University Center for Italian Renaissance Studies; Frances A. Yates Short-Term fellow en el Warburg Institute, Alexander von Humboldt experienced research fellow en el Max-Planck-Institut für Wissenschaftsgeschichte. Es editor de Philosophical Readings, una revista cuatrimestral  de filosofía, y de la colección Bloomsbury Studies in the Aristotelian Tradition. Es experto en New Opportunities for Research Funding Agency Cooperation in Europe (NORFACE) y en Humanities in the European Research Area (HERA).
