Richard KAGAN

Richard L. Kagan (BA Columbia University, 1965; Ph. D. Cambridge University, 1968) is an Emeritus Professor of Modern History at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, USA.

He has been received the honour of Commander in the Orden de Isabella la Católica, he is a member of the American Philosophical Society and a corresponding member of the Academia de la Historia, Madrid.

As a specialist in modern European history, he is particularly interested in Habsburg Spain and its overseas empire.

His books that have been translated into Spanish include Students and Society in Early Modern Spain (translated in 1981); Lawsuits and Litigants in Castile, 1500-1700 (translated in 1991); Lucrecia’s Dream: Politics and Prophecy in Sixteenth Century Spain (translated in 1991); Urban Images of the Hispanic World (translated in 1998); Cilo and the Crown (translated in 2010).

His upcoming title, The Spanish Craze: America’s Fascination with the Art and Culture of the Hispanic World, 1779-1939, will be released in 2019.
