MIAS, new member of the UBIAS international network

The centre of research in Humanities & Social Sciences is to form part of a prestigious academic forum which brings together the most renowned institutes of advanced studies in the world

Another step forward in the consolidation of the MIAS (Madrid Institute for Advanced Study). The research centre, originated by the collaboration between the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and the French Casa de Velázquez, is, from Monday November 16, to form part of the UBIAS (University-Based Institutes for Advanced Study) network. The network being composed of 44 renowned university institutes for advanced studies in Humanities and Social Sciences from all over the globe. The most prestigious university institutes for advanced studies in the USA, Canada, Brazil, Japan, China, India, S. Korea, Australia, South Africa and Europe form part of the network.

Call for applications 2020

Once more MIAS opens its calls to offer researchers different types of residency with the aim of reinforcing and internationalizing research in the fields of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Admitted in April 2019 as a full member of the prestigious NetIAS (Network of European Institutes for Advanced Study) network, the institute has become part of the IAS, which promotes spaces for debate, research and the creation of new ideas and is recognized worldwide as an agent for attracting talent on a global scale and as a promoter of prestige and visibility both in the coordinating institution and in the country in which it is located. 

From October 27 to November 30, 2020 researchers who meet the requirements indicated in each call will be able to present their candidacy through the procedures and platforms enabled for this purpose. All relevant information is available on the web and in this summary of call for applications.

RIC Roman Islam Center

The “Roman-Islam Center” is a new Institute for advanced study which aims to to research and study Romanization and Islamication in Late Antiquity.

It has been approved for 4 years by the German Research Fundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft - DFG). 

The RIC has been co-created by Sabine Panzram (MIAS fellow - 2018-2019)

NetIAS Annual Business Meeting

On November 22d, the MIAS will host the Annual Business Meeting of NetIAS, the European Network of Institutes for Advanced Study. This meeting will bring together in Madrid representatives of the network's 24 Institutes of Advanced Studies in order to discuss scientific policies and future joint actions.

This meeting will be held in Madrid in the perspective of the MIAS' future integration into the NetiAS network.

MIAS-Colmex Agreement

The Colegio de México (Colmex), by means of an agreement signed in August 2018, has entered the MIAS annual call.

This agreement is the result of the talks held in the Colegio de México during the visit of the director of the MIAS, Antonio Álvarez-Ossorio, and the director of Casa de Velázquez, Michel Bertrand, which took place in March of this year.

Subsequently, the president of the Colegio de México, Silvia Giorguli Saucedo, had the opportunity to visit the facilities of MIAS and know firsthand its main lines of activity. The agreement has been signed by the Colegio de México, the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and the Casa de Velázquez.
