Biography
Doctor in History from El Colegio de México, Héctor Strobel was a postdoctoral researcher at the Instituto de Investigaciones Históricas of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. He has specialized in the history of the liberal Reforma and the French intervention in Mexico. He received the International Commission of Military History award for his latest book, Resistir es vencer. Historia militar de la intervención francesa, 1862-1867. He is the author of works such as El ejército liberal en la Reforma and Historia ilustrada de la intervención francesa en Veracruz; he also coordinated the volume El combate de Camarón. He is a member of the Mexican National System of Researchers.

Research project
My research project focuses on the formation of the Spanish military expedition to Mexico, 1861-1862. My goal is to examine its organization, development, and financing from the methodological approach of the new military history, which seeks to explore the social, economic, and cultural perspectives of wars and armed forces. The relevance of this research goes beyond identifying the organization and motives that led to the failure of the Spanish expedition, as it will help broaden the understanding of the political, military, and economic deficiencies of Queen Isabel II's government in its imperial aspirations, while shedding light on the reasons for the destabilization of the regime and the impact of the Mexican military campaign on Spanish politics.
