D. in Archaeology from the University of Buenos Aires. She is Professor of History of Architecture and Urbanism at the Faculty of Architecture, Design and Urbanism (UBA). She has developed her doctoral and postdoctoral research in the framework of grants awarded by the National Council for Scientific and Technical Research (Argentina) and has recently been awarded the Fellowship of the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR).
Since 2008 she has travelled to the Antarctic continent where she has worked as a researcher, cultural heritage manager and science communicator. Since 2019 she co-coordinates 6044SUR, Interdisciplinary Research Team on Architecture and Habitat in Antarctica and the SUR Archive, the first virtual platform dedicated to the study and documentation of Architecture and Habitat in Antarctica. She is currently a member of various international organisations, including the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research and the International Polar Heritage Committee.
Projet de recherche
During the 20th and 21st centuries, Antarctica has been a limitless laboratory for the Natural Sciences. Recently, the Social Sciences and Humanities have discovered the immense potential of this territory for the understanding of global-scale processes, from which Antarctica has often been excluded. Antarctica, far from being a pristine, natural, wild and inhospitable territory, has an extensive anthropic footprint, a product of the confluence of commercial and scientific activities.
During the 20th and 21st centuries, the architectural heritage has been growing, not only in terms of numbers, but also in terms of its richness and material, technical and morphological diversity. As a result of the signing of the Environmental Protection Protocol, a process of minimisation of the anthropic footprint has been promoted, for part of the architectural heritage has been removed from the continent, and replaced by new architectures. Faced with this scenario, from 6044SUR (Interdisciplinary Research Team) we seek to develop the SUR Virtual Archive dedicated to the documentation and study of Ibero-American architectural heritage in Antarctica.
