Audiovisual Mediatization of Solidarity with Chile: Insights from Spain (1975–1989)
Master’s degree in Arts and Languages from EHESS and a PhD in Contemporary History from Université Paris 8. She is currently a postdoctoral fellow (ANID–Becas Chile) at the Institut d’Histoire du temps présent (IHTP–CNRS). Her research explores the audiovisual strategies of international solidarity movements with Chile during the Cold War, the political-cultural cooperation networks they mobilized, and the migration of these images in contemporary memory and heritage processes. She is involved in the projects IRN-HISTEMAL: History of the Present, Memories and Emotions in Latin America and Spain (CNRS–InSHS) and Interdisciplinary Study on Solidarity with Chile in the 1970s and 1980s at PUCV, Chile. She has taught in the Departments of Foreign Languages and Cultures at Université Paris Nanterre and CY Cergy Paris Université.
Projet de recherche
This project forms part of a postdoctoral research initiative that explores the media dimension of international solidarity with Chile, focusing on audiovisual production and dissemination within the context of political transformations in Latin Europe—from the democratic transitions in the Iberian Peninsula to the simultaneous end of Pinochet’s regime and real socialism. Through a multiscalar approach, it concentrates on the Spanish case to examine the circulation of images denouncing the Chilean dictatorship and the human networks that promoted their diffusion in the post-Franco era. As “anti-imperialist” and “anti-fascist” solidarity declined, Spain emerged as a new platform for coordinating anti-dictatorial campaigns. The project investigates how audiovisual production, use, and reception responded both to the denunciation of Pinochet’s regime and to the debates and memories arising during Spain’s return to democracy. It also explores the inclusion of the Chilean case in the “Latin American turn” observed in television and film festivals in the region from the late 1970s onward.
