Circulation of performances, songs, and symbols created in Latin America within feminist mobilizations in Spain (2016–2026)
I am a assistant lecturer in the sociology of public cultural action at Paris 8 University – and a senior researcher at CRESPPA. My PhD thesis in political science was awarded the ENCACT Cultural Policy Research Award in 2014. I hold a licenciatura in ethnology from the Escuela Nacional de Antropología e Historia (Mexico City). Since 2020, I have been working on cultural participation through choral singing, whilst continuing to conduct research – which I began during my postdoctoral fellowship in Argentina in 2017 (CONICET, Universidad de Buenos Aires) – into the transnational circulation of ideas, public programmes and, more recently, modes of action.
My research programme focuses on the circulation, in Spain, of forms of artistic action created within feminist mobilisations against gender-based violence in Chile and Mexico. How can we explain the fact that the performances by LasTesis and ‘Canción sin miedo’ by Vivir Quitana form part of the repertoire of Spanish feminist protesters? Approaching the subject through artistic modes of action allows me to examine the contexts and intermediaries involved in the circulation of ideas. I will examine how concepts forged in Latin America, such as ‘feminicide’, are redefined and adapted by members of feminist collectives in Spain.
