The creation of handmade publications—produced by the authors themselves using available resources—is a practice with deep historical roots that takes on unique characteristics in the current context. In Argentina, self-publishing is linked to experiences of political engagement, artistic expression, and collective labor; while these endeavors have taken on various meanings over time, they share common aims and motivations: disseminating ideas, documenting processes, and sharing creative work.
Drawing on participatory research conducted in Mendoza, Argentina, this study reviews historical precedents and analyzes the current state of publishing practices that emerge from the margins of the cultural sphere. It examines their characteristics, possibilities, and challenges as forms of participation within a social landscape increasingly shaped by virtualization and atomization.
